In the last year, Brazil advanced in the race for the arrival of the 5G network, with antennas being activated in all the capitals of the country. Fifth-generation mobile internet promises connection between a much larger number of devices with low latency and about 10 times faster than its predecessor, 4G.

In 2022, data from the Ministry of Economy, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), revealed a projection that the use of 5G in companies, multinationals and startups could reach BRL 101 billion by 2031, generating more 22.8 million jobs around the world by 2025.

Faced with this scenario, PiaR Group brought together 15 experts to list the areas most affected by the arrival of the 5G network in 2023, check out:

1. Games

5G arrives to add even more to the gamer universe, says Yasmin Rodrigues, Game Producer at Sidia Instituto de Ciência e Tecnologia. “The possibilities with the new potential of the 5G connection are countless. We have a rise of games in all aspects of connection to servers, download times, Cloud Gaming — which is becoming popular as the newest game library — and the leveling up of mobile games with Augmented Reality ”, she explains.

Among the main improvements felt by mobile game users are better download speed and low latency. This last item consists of the time between the triggering of a command and the final execution, so the lower this number, the better.

“Currently, with the 4G network, the latency is 80 microseconds — in 5G, it decreases to 1 and 5 microseconds. It may seem like a small and unimportant change, but for these players, it will greatly transform their experiences with games and also their functionality, helping to further popularize this activity and gaming apps”, observes Samir Iásbeck, CEO and founder of Qranio .

2. Retail

In an increasingly connected world, 5G will expand the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). For consumers, the advancement of interconnected products makes shopping experiences more complete, while e-commerce will have new opportunities and facilities in bureaucratic steps, such as payment, for example.

For Jefferson Araújo, CEO of Showkase, virtual reality, lives commerce, metaverse and many other technologies will be facilitated with 5G. “It’s time for executives to pay attention to the trends and possibilities that match their target audience. Therefore, tracing strategic and innovative paths is crucial in 2023, after all, 5G brings benefits to everyone”, he adds.

3. Education

The educational sector has undergone some changes in recent years, mainly due to the popularization of distance learning (EAD) and applications that aid in learning. With access to other technological solutions, such as AI, big data and virtual reality, the expectation is that the sector will reach new heights.

“In this scenario, the arrival of 5G will bring a huge advance by improving connection speed. It will be possible to use innovations such as affective intelligent tutoring systems to give students more differentiated, personalized and accessible experiences with regard to teaching”, analyzes Mateus Magno, CEO of Sambatech.

4. Industry

For Bruno Zabeu, Business Development Manager at Universal Robots in South America, the 5G connection will allow the industry to act faster and develop even more automated tools. “The technology will allow for faster communication between machines, systems and robots, and in this scenario, teleoperation will gain strength, allowing the way of operating cobots to be even easier”, he says.

In the case of the printing industry, the arrival of the fifth generation mobile internet will allow for the optimization of processes and a more personalized follow-up of customers, as stated by Gregory Goris, Technology director at Printi. “(…) technology must be used at each stage so that deliveries always exceed expectations, making it the best experience in e-commerce and mobile experience. With this, in addition to customer loyalty, companies gain in sustainability, by avoiding the waste of materials”, emphasizes Gregory.

Still on personalized service, Ana Dullius, Director of Communication and Marketing at Run More, points out that 5G makes it possible to improve e-commerce platforms and customer service, making the public’s experience more personalized. “With the great advancement of smartphones, screens have provided more sharpness and liveliness”, says Ana.

Continuing on the theme of the textile industry, Juan David Gómez Valencia, commercial director at Texneo, reveals that innovation is present throughout the sector’s complex, being necessary for technological advances in companies. “The evolution of technology allows agility throughout the process, improvement in product quality, evolution in service (such as the use of 3D technology for product presentation), development of intelligent fabrics, in addition to reducing environmental impacts”, he says. .

5. Health

After the covid-19 pandemic, the health sector underwent a digitalization process, which should be enhanced by the arrival of 5G, as explained by André Brandão, CEO of Medictalks. “Telemedicine, exams and other tools will be more agile with the use of the fifth generation of mobile internet network. Thus, patients and healthcare professionals will benefit, as many processes will be optimized”, he says.

“Innovation is a great ally as it offers a reduction in the length of stay for patients in clinics, hospitals and emergency rooms. With this new technology, it will be possible to further improve our services and offer a more humanized health experience”, says Cadu Lopes, CEO of the Doctoralia platform. He claims that the advancement of this technology will provide agility and efficiency regarding online scheduling and teleconsultations.

For Carlos Braga, CEO of healthtech Bio, 5G will leverage the growth of companies that invest in technology for better service to users of health plans. “With the advancement of 5G, the trend is for more and more companies and health operators to invest in new solutions to participate more actively in the journey of users. We believe in a future where health is more equal because nowadays many people do not have a reference doctor”, he explains.

6. Artificial Intelligence

According to Florêncio Ponte Cabral Jr, CEO of Virtus Automation & IA, the 5G network allows real-time data sharing, providing more efficiency for the use of artificial intelligence, both in the public and private sectors. “With 5G, we will be able to receive real-time notifications about possible defects in equipment, inefficiencies in corporate processes and also in the management of public equipment”, he exemplifies.

7. Civil Construction

According to Vinicius Callegari, Co-founder of GaussFleet, civil construction has also benefited from technological advances.

“At the construction site or even on our entire platform, depending on the internet connection, it is possible to monitor and download the information captured by the smart trackers (such as engine and implement operation, for example), driver identification process, which, combined with the digital geoprocessing of the work’s productive and unproductive areas, integrated into the planning, generate information and insights that help in decision-making regarding the progress of the work versus what was planned”, he explains.

8. Finance and payment methods

For fintechs, 5G speeds up various processes and this facilitates the creation of new products that provide better service and new means of payment, says Pedro Santiago, CEO of Idez.

9. Events

After a difficult period during the covid-19 pandemic, the events sector had to reinvent itself. “With the advancement of 5G, what once seemed like something from another world is now a reality because we have increasingly advanced technological solutions that bring us data, budgets, interaction tools and everything that is necessary for organizing events. In addition, we have qualified professionals in this challenge of bringing the best experiences to engage the most diverse audiences and the entire community”, concludes Camila Florentino, CEO of the Celebrar platform.
