Nolberto Solano was part of the technical command that qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and fell short of going to Qatar 2022, which is why it was surprising that he was not considered when Juan Reynoso took over the reins of the Peruvian team.

However, Juan Carlos Oblitas, current general director of soccer for the FPF, explained the reasons for his absence in an interview with sports journalist Carlos Univazo.
“Nolberto Solano was throughout Ricardo Gareca’s time as a special and close member of the technical staff, but he was an assistant that Ricardo listened to a lot”he pointed.
“Nolberto Solano does not continue because he spoke at the least precise moment and had some sentences that were not happy regarding foreigners and those things like that. That didn’t sit well with me because I even told him that if he went abroad, wouldn’t he direct? He does it by spending so much time with them (Gareca’s technical command)”, he added.
Oblitas assured that Solano’s statements that cost him his job do not match his true thinking. Likewise, he recalled how he was selected to accompany Ricardo Gareca on the national bench.
“I know that time won him and he did not know how to express what he felt, but that is why Ñol is not in the federation at this time”indicated.
“When Ricardo arrives, I told him that I would like a Peruvian to come so that he can have that experience that is needed and Gareca interviewed three: Paul Cominges, Carlos Silvestri and Nolberto Solano, in the end Nolberto was left”he added.

Before the election of Juan Reynoso as DT was confirmed. of the Peruvian team, Nolberto Solano gave some statements that many took as a criticism of the soccer system for valuing foreign coaches more.
