López Obrador explained why he missed the Celac Summit. (Presidency)

This January 24 Argentina was the host of the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), headed by the president of the silver nation, Alberto Fernandezand with the presence of 32 representations between foreign ministers and Heads of State.

However, the presence of Mexico highlighted by the absence of the president, Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), who was represented by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon. Due to his position, his absence also generated uncertainty at the national level, especially when considering the fraternity that the Tabasco native has boasted of supporting with “the brother towns” from Argentina and recently from Brazilwhose president Lula Da Silva He did go after the coup attempt.

After acknowledging the speculation, the Mexican Chief Executive clarified that his in-person absence it was due to “the commitments” that it had to fulfill in the Republic, although it only limited itself to mentioning the supervision of the works of the Mayan Train.

“There is a lot of speculation as to why I didn’t go. I have commitments in the country. I had to be on the Mayan Train, supervising the works (…) And I have a lot of work”.

In addition to this, López Obrador argued that coincidences with member nations are greater than the differences.

“We are in favor of all governments; of the policies they are following; of authentic democracy; against coups d’état, both military and media or ‘legal’”, he asserted from the morning as a “prior” to video-message which he recorded to be played at the Summit.

In this sense, Andrés Manuel, in the clip that he shared hours later in his Twitter, affirmed with special dedication to Alberto Fernández that “whatever you agree, we will second it.” This, after reiterating the compliments with which he pointed out to the Argentine as “an exceptional being, gentle, with ‘people skills’, kind” and “soul brother”.

“There is much more that unites us in everything (…) What can separate us? Let’s go forward, united (…) We support the Celac resolution in advance”.

It should be noted that, in addition to Fernández, the President of Mexico dedicated a few minutes to Xiomara CastroPresident of Honduras, and Da Silva, to whom he endorsed his solidarity for the coup attempt on January 8.
