When the father takes his son to football…
At England’s future King William (40) it is not much different than in middle-class families. The proud father spent a free afternoon at the soccer stadium with his son George (9).
They watched the game together Aston Villa against relegation candidates Nottingham Forest. William is an ardent supporter of Villa. He explained why in a 2015 interview with the BBC: “A long time ago I got into football at school. I looked around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want that. I wanted to have a team that was more in the midfield and could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
William: “Aston Villa has always had a great history. I have friends who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I attended was Bolton vs Aston Villa in 2000. Unfortunately Villa lost to Chelsea. It was amazing, I sat up with all the fans in my red hat and I sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time.”
What excited him: “It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt like there was something I could relate to.” He passed that passion on to his son George.
But not only them. The little prince made the same gestures as his dad during the game. They suffered and gossiped together.
At halftime it was 0-0. However, the lively expressions on the faces of the two princes proved that the game up to that point was anything but boring.
When Villa scored three minutes into the second half, George was overjoyed. He jumped out of his seat and high-fived everyone around him, including Villa’s general manager Christian Purslow.
In the end, father and son were happy about their team’s 2-0 victory. This secured Villa the chance to qualify for an international competition.
