Preliminary improvements for notebooks with two displays
In addition to foldable laptops with a continuous folding display such as the ASUS ZenBook 17 Fold OLED and the ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2 from Lenovo, Microsoft is allegedly already targeting devices with two separate displays, even if they have hardly been on the market so far are. As is well known, Microsoft itself had corresponding hardware in the pipeline with the Surface Neo, but gave up the device before the market launch.
How exactly the improvements in the “Moments 3” update will look like is currently still open. However, Windows Central author Zac Bowden speaks of preparatory improvements. Of course, Microsoft is currently preparing the “Moments 2” update, which is to be released in early 2023. Among other things, a taskbar optimized for tablets and other minor improvements can be expected.
New Outlook and more in “Moments 3”
For Windows 11 “Moments 3” should meanwhile be expected with some other interesting innovations. Specifically, Bowden speaks, among other things, of a revision of the Windows search interface and updated inbox apps. This includes the future web-based new Outlook version, which will replace the normal calendar and mail apps. According to Bowden, Microsoft also wants to modernize the old system dialogs, such as for connecting USB devices, and adapt them to the general design language of Windows 11. The extent to which the “Moments” updates and their functions will fit into the release cycle in the future is said to be still open.
According to Windows Central’s report, “Moments 2” and “Moments 3” as part of Windows 11 22H2 are expected in February/March and May/June respectively, before “Moments 4” then in September/October for Windows 11 23/H2 appears.
