We are in the second decade of the 21st century but even at this point there is a really crucial question that for many does not have an obvious answer: How can I find out how much free storage space is left on my computer with windows?

The obsession with knowing our available storage margin before saturating a device is a recent obsession that has arisen from the use of smartphones, tablets and other similar gadgets.

But the reality is that any computer that has a hard drive or an SSD drive can be in the predicament of reaching the limit of its capacity, which can imply a significant series of problems for our stored information.

With the industry dedicated to the manufacture of these memory units growing by leaps and boundspromising capacities of up to 50TB in HDD units at the end of this same 2023, the scenario of saturating a computer seems impossible.

However, it is more than feasible, especially on computers that run under older operating systems, such as Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows XP.

So we have put together a simple and quick guide, based on screenshots, to obtain that free memory data without so many complications.

How do I know how much memory is left free on my Windows computer?

On Windows 11, 10 and all other versions it’s basically the same process:

At the bottom left of the screen, click the little yellow folder icon. Or, failing that, press the Windows key and the E key at the same time.

We look for the section that says This team and left click there.

On the right, the Devices and drives section will be displayed, where we will see the different drives that the computer has. In this case, the one that should concern us is the one that says Local disk (c:).

Under the drive, we will see the capacity of the drive and how much free space it has.

You can even right-click on the drive and choose the properties option to get a more detailed window with a pie chart illustrating the proportion of available space.

In the case of Windows 7 or Windows XP we repeat the same sequence of steps starting with the use of the combination of the Windows Key and E.

We put together a simple guide with the necessary steps to check the used and available storage space on our Windows computer.

And that’s it, with this we will know how much free memory we have on the computer.
