Winter sport: on the track of the Haitian team at the world championships of alpine skiing

In Courchevel (Savoie), the Haitian team does not go unnoticed. In their country, however, there is not the slightest winter sports resort. The Haitian Ski Federation was created 13 years ago, just after the earthquake, as a symbol. Last year, the delegation discovered the Olympic Stadium in Beijing (China) for their first Winter Games, a consecration. To achieve this, training and competitions are punctuated by French coach Thierry Montillet.

Richardson Viano, world-class skier at 20

Richardson Viano, slalomer for the Haiti team, is a world-class skier at 20 years old. Born in Haiti, adopted by Italian parents, he chose to represent his native country. “It’s always motivating to ski for your country, especially for a country that has been struggling like Haiti for years now”, he confides. Tomorrow, Richardson Viano will start the slaloms of the world championships to wave the Haitian flag at the top of the slopes of Courchevel.
