World Day for the Prevention of Forest Accidents

Every August 18, the world day for the prevention of forest accidents is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness about the damage that fires cause to ecosystems.

These types of fires spread out of control in wild lands, damaging the fauna and flora of the place. What makes it different from other fires is the wide spread and the speed with which it spreads and the power to change direction unexpectedly.

Studies indicate that climate change causes the rate of fires to increase by 50%.

These disasters have three phases which are:

  • Start: Start of the fire produced by natural causes.
  • Propagation: Extension of the fire through the vegetation.
  • Extinction: End of the accident.

The propagation of a forest fire depends on both the atmospheric conditions and the place and vegetation where it occurs.

Some preventive measures to avoid generating further damage to the environment are:

Never make a fire under the trees, do it only in authorized places and keep an eye on it to prevent it from spreading. And keep containers with plenty of water.

That is why this day is intended to guide the population about fires and how to avoid them.

In the same way, it requests that if you observe any of these incidents, report it to the corresponding authorities as soon as possible.
