NEW YORK.- Inspired by an 18th century Scottish philosopher and the modern scourge of misinformation, the writer Suzanne Collins returns to the devastated, post-apocalyptic land of Panem for a new novel of The Hunger Games.
Scholastic announced today -June 6- that Sunrise on the Reapingthe fifth volume in Collins’ best-selling dystopian series, will be published on March 18, 2025. The new book begins with the harvest of the fiftieths. The Hunger Gamesset 24 years before the original novel by Hunger Gamesoriginally published in 2008, and 40 years after Collins’ most recent book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Lionsgate, which has released film adaptations of the four previous books by Hunger Gameshe later announced that Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who has worked on all but the first film in the series, returns as director.

The books of The Hunger Games They have sold more than 100 million copies and have been translated into dozens of languages. Apparently, Collins had ended the series after the publication of Sinsajo in 2010, and even five years later he wrote that it was time to move on to other lands. But in 2019 he surprised readers and the publishing world when he revealed that he was working on what became The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakespublished in 2020 and set 64 years before the first book.
Collins has drawn on Greek mythology and Roman gladiator duels for his previous books. The Hunger Games. But for the next novel, he quotes the Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume.
For Sunrise on the Reaping “I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, the ease with which the many are governed by the few,” Collins said in a statement. History also lent itself to delving into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the discourse. The question: ‘is it real or is it not real?’ It seems more pressing to me every day.
The movies of Hunger Games are a multi-million dollar franchise for Lionsgate that starred Jennifer Lawrence as the heroine Katniss Everdeen as the protagonist of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, the last of which was divided into two parts. Other notable actors have been Philip Seymour Hoffman, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.

The cinematographic version of Songbirds and Snakes, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, were released last year.
