Today marks two years since the first vaccines against COVID-19 in Coahuila. On December 28, 2020, health personnel received the doses at the facilities of the 69 Infantry Battalion, in Saltillo.
Along with Mexico City, Coahuila it became the first state where the vaccine developed by Pfizer was applied. This is due to its military structure and its geographical location.
The application of the vaccines came 10 months after the first positive case of the virus was detected in Mexico, on February 27, 2020.

Health personnel had priority in application due to the risk of contagion in hospitals.
In the Coahuilense entity, the first doses were applied to the nurse Erika Trinidad Romero Torres, Head of Nurses of the COVID-19 Area of the General Hospital of Saltillo, Griselda Aracely Nieto, Head of Nursing of the General Hospital of Zone No. 2 of the IMSS and Lieutenant Colonel Surgeon Victor Manuel Luna Ayala, from Sedena.
The following day, on December 29, 2020, the vaccination process began for medical personnel working in COVID areas in the five regions of Coahuila. For the initial batch, a total of 8,775 doses were available.
The child population was the last to receive the coronavirus vaccines.
