Oura, a brand known for the production of smart rings, can bring the feature of approximation payments to its products. The possibility was reinforced recently, after the acquisition of Proxy, a digital identity signal platform company.

Proxy’s products and services are intended to replace keys and other physical accessories, through technologies present in mobile and wearable devices. The company also emphasizes data security, with advances in biometric data identification technologies.

In practice, this means that Oura must develop its technologies for payments and other types of instant authentication, similar to what already happens in smart watches with NFC, for example. This trend was confirmed by Tom Hale, CEO of the company:

“We are excited to collaborate with the Proxy team to expand our target market, paving the way for new opportunities in areas such as payments, access, security, identity and more.”

The executive also stated that the agreement reaffirms the brand’s ambitions to integrate a digital identity signal with existing hardware, and that now Oura “has the most complete portfolio in the smart ring market”.

Through an official statement, the brand also reinforced its investment in research and development in several areas, which include the detection of aspects such as sleep quality, stress, mental health, disease detection and menstrual cycles.

Oura Ring promises more accurate measurements than watches

Currently, the third generation Oura Ring is the brand’s flagship product. In addition to health resources, the accessory also has a battery for seven days of use, and a discreet design with five color options.

According to what the company claims, the ring is a more accurate way to measure body data, due to the greater proximity to the arteries of the fingers. The use of such devices is common among athletes, including players on the Brazilian national team.

It is not possible to buy the Oura Ring 3 officially in Brazil, but the product is available on the official website of the brand for US$ 449 — equivalent to approximately R$ 2,197 in direct conversion.
