Young people who allegedly planned shooting at Donna High School are on trial

The trial against Nathaniel Montelongo and Barbarito Pantoja, both accused of conspiring to commit the capital murder of several persons, will begin this July 10 in the Hidalgo County courthouse.

The decision on the future of both defendants will fall on Judge Letty López, since the trial will not be by jury.

The incident for which both are in legal trouble occurred on May 25, 2022. That day Donna High School was closed due to a credible threat that caused the Donna School District to cancel classes until May 31.

In addition to Montelongo and Pantoja, Donna Police arrested two youths whose names were not released.

During a press conference to discuss the case, the police indicated that the detainees allegedly planned a shooting at Donna High School, a crime that obviously was not carried out.

The arrest of all these people was possible thanks to a tip received on May 24. During the investigation, the FBI and the departments of Donna, McAllen and Edinburg, among others, participated.
