Youtube boss Susan Wojcicki resigns. Her successor comes from her own management team: Neal Mohan was previously Chief Product Officer at YouTube and, like Wojcicki himself, is a Google veteran. Wojcicki will take care of an orderly handover and will receive a consulting contract with Google and its holding company Alphabet for the time thereafter.

Google veteran Susan Wojcicki is, among other things, the ex-sister-in-law of Google co-founder Segey Brin

After all, it is part of the inventory there. “25 years ago I made the decision to join two Stanford students who were building a new search engine. Their names were Larry and Sergey,” Wojcicki begins her farewell letter to the YouTube workforce. The two students had actually rented Wojcicki’s garage.

Since April 1999, the woman has officially worked for the Google group. She was involved in a wide range of projects: she played a leading role in setting up Google’s search engines for images, videos and books, managed the advertising business, which is fundamental to Google, and worked on the fateful takeovers of Doubleclicks and YouTube.

She has now headed the latter for nine years. “It was exciting, meaningful and consumed everything,” says the American today. Now she’s had enough. You have decided to open a “new chapter with a focus on my family, health and personal projects”.

She scatters roses for her successor, Mohan. The qualified electrical engineer joined the Google group in 2008 through the Doubleclick takeover orchestrated by Wojcicki. In 2011, Twitter made two Googlers a tempting offer: Both Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan could have become chief product officers at Twitter for a princely fee. But Google kept both men in line with a special payment: Pichai received, according to one at the time Report Techcrunch $50 million.

The new YouTube boss works part-time for Sergey Brin’s ex-wife.

Mohan even cost Google $100 million. “He has a wonderful feeling for our product, our content creators, our user community and our employees,” says Wojcicki Rosen. “He will be a great leader for Youtube.” The two managers have worked together for more than 16 years in the Google group. Mohan sits on the board of directors of DNS firm 23andme, whose co-founder and acting CEO was married to Sergey Brin and whose name is Anne Wojcicki: Susan Wojcicki’s youngest sister.
