The president of YPF, Pablo González, highlighted that the company closed 2022 “with an investment of US$ 4,100 million and a total production growth of 9%, the highest in the last 25 years”, within the framework of a meeting between representatives of the Argentine hydrocarbons sector and the German chancellor, Olaf Scholtz, who is visiting the country.

González affirmed that YPF’s production growth in 2022 was the highest in the last 25 years and said that “by 2023 the company’s investments would exceed five billion dollars, which will allow us to continue with this growth agenda.”

During the meeting they analyzed the potential that Argentina has as a global energy producer from the resources it has in Vaca Muerta and the possibility of exporting it as LNG, and discussed renewable energy and lithium in Argentina.

In this regard, from YPF they highlighted that “German officials, headed by its chancellor, showed interest in renewable energies and lithium, where the country presents important opportunities by being part, together with Chile and Bolivia, of the Lithium Triangle that it contains 60% of the world resources of this key mineral for the energy transition”.

“YPF is a leader in the production of renewable energy and more than 25% of the energy it consumes is generated from this type of source,” the company highlighted.

In addition, through YPF Luz, it operates 400 MW of renewable energy that is generated in its three wind farms located in the province of Buenos Aires (Los Teros), Chubut (Manantiales Behr) and Santa Cruz (Cañadón León). In addition, it has its first solar energy project under construction in the province of San Juan, whose first stage will be inaugurated this year and will add a power of 100 MW, with a final capacity of 300 MW, among other issues.

Agreements with Germany

On the other hand, the governments of Argentina and Germany signed an agreement that seeks to “strengthen” an agenda for the promotion and development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, “startups” (emerging companies) and the knowledge economy in Argentina, official sources from the South American country reported this Sunday. .

As detailed by the Ministry of Economy in a statement, this “joint letter of intent” was signed on Saturday as part of the visit of the German Chancellor.

In this context, the authorities agreed to open an office of the “German Accelerator”, the main accelerator of German ventures and startups, in the metropolitan region of Buenos Aires.

“In this way, the Argentine entrepreneurial ecosystem will be able to count on the capabilities and acceleration programs of an institution of the highest level, and develop better links with the German and European startup market,” said the statement from the Ministry of Economy.

According to the official text, the presence of the German Accelerator will allow Argentina to be positioned as a “regional hub” of the main German accelerator, which will allow “boosting” the opportunities for internationalization of Argentine ventures and startups.

“Such an initiative will be carried out through accelerated incubation processes, highly personalized programs, mentoring provided by dedicated experts, as well as access to networks of business partners and investors,” he explained.

The signing of this memorandum was headed by the Argentine Secretary of Economic Programming, Gabriel Rubinstein; by the Parliamentary Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection of Germany, Franziska Brantner, and by the CEO of the German Accelerator, Claus Karthe, among other authorities.
