Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) is against a literal ban on citing media from criminal files. Her counterpart in the ÖVP, Constitutional Minister Karoline Edtstadler, had previously demanded such a thing again. This regulation has not proven itself in Germany and is de facto dead law there, argued Zadic today in the ORF “Press Hour”.

The ÖVP partly blamed Zadic for the fact that construction sites such as the rights of the accused have not yet been completed.

The accused’s rights in the preliminary investigation are currently “very good” anyway, according to the justice minister. There is a lot of catching up to do with the police. But there were a number of proposals from her side that now have to be negotiated in the coalition. In addition, Zadic wants to wait for various supreme court decisions, for example when dealing with mobile phone evaluations.
