And what do you wish for the new year?
Some people who sat in front of the television on New Year’s Eve and zapped through ZDF, probably a general overhaul of the legendary party at the Brandenburg Gate!
“Welcome 2023” was the name of the TV spectacle. Andrea Kiewel (57) and Johannes B. Kerner (58) present the show for the first time from the east side of the gate, Pariser Platz. They didn’t need much more space either. 2500 party people came, in the past half a million people let it rip at the Brandenburg Gate.
Kiwi and Kerner looked chic! And the moderators, full professionals, held out the show, which lasted more than four hours, with ease. In front of the telly at home, the three million viewers (22 percent market share among 14 to 49 year olds) apparently found it difficult to keep going.
The musical superstars of the evening? The Scorpions were there. DJ Bobo and Alphaville. Munich freedom. After that it got thin. Malik Harris, Kamrad, YouNotUs, Jupiter Jones, Laurell, Moncrieff, Aura Dione, Calum Scott.
Even if the ZDF show did not seem to want to end for many viewers, it is quickly summarized: a lot of playback. Lots of lousy sound engineering. Many guests, but few stars. Much mediocre vibes. And a lot of viewers who let off their nerve-frustration steam on Twitter:
“Somehow it’s getting more uncomfortable by the minute.”
“I can’t take it sober. Luckily it’s New Year’s Eve and we’re not sober.”
“The sound engineer should be fired!”
“That has nothing to do with mood and party! It doesn’t get any worse than that!”
“That was probably the last ZDF New Year’s Eve show from Berlin. Something like that, technically and musically underground.”
In the end, everyone slipped in well. And maybe ZDF can already slowly prepare the New Year’s Eve show 2023 so that it will be a hit this year.
