Cuban woman from Hialeah arrested for depositing more than 30 false checks in a bank

A Cuban woman was arrested this Wednesday by Hialeah police accused of multiple charges that include fraud and forging checks to a bank branch.

The arrest took place after an investigation that dates back to last year.

According to the authorities, the accused and her accomplice – a man who was arrested in January of this year – deposited thirty fraudulent checks in a bank branch of Ocean Bank. The Cuban woman, 54 years old and identified as Belkis Mora Suárez, opened an account banking at the branch of an Ocean Bank located on Seventh Avenue and 49th Street in West Hialeah and in less than three days he deposited 33 fraudulent checks.

He did so through mobile electronic deposits and at an ATM. In total he withdrew almost $9,000 in January 2022.

The Ocean Bank operations office immediately contacted her to obtain information about the transactions and the woman indicated that her nephew had stolen her credentials and that she would visit the bank personally.

However, he never did so and did not respond to the multiple communications that were sent to him.

The bank contacted Hialeah police and investigators obtained surveillance videos and copies of the transactions made.

In this way, they were able to determine that the person involved acted in complicity with a man identified as Omar García Toro, who – according to the police report – has an extensive history of fraudulent acts.

The man was arrested and charged with the crimes. However, when police attempted to locate Belkis Mora Suárez, he was no longer residing at the registered address.

She was later found at the house of friends in Miami Gardens.

The Cuban woman appeared in court this Wednesday accused of check forgery, third-degree theft and organized fraud scheme.

The woman was ordered to stay away from all Ocean Bank branch locations throughout Miami-Dade County.

They also set bail for him at $9,000, even though the prosecutor’s office did not agree because it considered the amount “too light.”

Ocean Bank recovered 5,970.69 and is currently facing a loss of $2,967.81.

Until the closing of this note, the Cuban woman remains in the TGK prison.
