Fines of $200 begin for drivers for violating the stop on school buses

They begin fining drivers $200 for violating the school bus stop sign.

Miami-Dade school transportation vehicles have smart cameras capable of photographing those who violate traffic laws.

MIAMI.- Starting this Wednesday, May 8, Miami-Dade drivers who violate traffic law and overtake school buses when they are stopped will be fined $200 thanks to the system of intelligent surveillance cameras installed in public school transportation vehicles.

Last April, the County Police Department sent more than 10,000 warning letters to drivers informing them that they had been caught breaking the law by failing to stop for school buses.

As explained by the Police Department, more than a thousand school transportation vehicles in the county were equipped with intelligent surveillance cameras with the ability to photograph the license plates of those vehicles that pass them illegally.

Starting Wednesday, May 8, police letters will not contain warnings, but rather fines of up to $200 for breaking the law.

Florida law states that when a school bus stops and flashes the stop sign, all vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.

For roads divided by a raised barrier or median at least 5 feet high, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the school bus should stop.
