Temperature in Cuba breaks historical record by reaching 40 degrees Celsius

HAVANA.- Another record of temperature maximum recorded by the thermometers Cuba during this Tuesday, according to weather reports.

The record was 40 degrees Celsius, in the town of Bolivia, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, according to the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba (INSMET), reports the web portal CubaNet.

According to specialist Bryam Pérez Valdés, the automatic weather station located in that municipality of Avila marked a maximum temperature of 40°C on Tuesday afternoon. In other locations in the province the thermometers registered 37.8 and 36.8°C.

A little over a month ago the Jucarito weather station, Granma province, recorded an absolute temperature record in Cuba: 40.1 degrees Celsius.

The increase occurred as a result of the marked influence of high pressure, in addition to other factors such as strong solar radiation and weak winds, Granma meteorologists indicated.

The registration of this value occurred at 3:00 pm. and marks a new absolute record. The previous one, recorded on this same day in 2020, was 39.2°C.

In addition, it even exceeds the maximum record that was in Cuba: 39.7°C on April 12, 2020 at the Veguitas station. It was the first time that Cuba exceeded the 40°C barrier.

Last year temperatures also experienced an increase. July was the hottest in Cuba since 1951.

In July 2023, an average temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius (°C) was recorded, even higher than the 29.04 °C in August 2020, one of the warmest in recent years.

That month, 17 maximum temperature records were established. The most notable of these was 39.0 degrees in the town of Jucarito, on the 22nd.
