1 Year Kid Dead and 3 Other Children Hospitalized at Bronx Day Care

A 1-year-old boy died and three other children were hospitalized after an incident at a Bronx day care center on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at Divino Nino Daycare on 2707 Morris Ave. in Kingsbridge. Police were called to the day care around 2:40 p.m. .

The children reportedly ate around 1 p.m. and took a nap. The 1-year-old boy was declared dead at the scene. The other three children were taken to a hospital.

Investigators initially suspected a possible carbon monoxide leak at the apartment building where the day care is located, but FDNY officials ruled that out. A source familiar with the investigation said one of the children responded to Narcan.

The state had just inspected the day care last week and found no violations. The state noted that there were no poisonous or toxic items accessible to children. A caregiver certified in CPR and first aid was present at all times with the children.

Emergency medical workers responded to a 911 call requesting help for the children at 2707 Morris Avenue in the Bronx at around 2:45 p.m., officials said. They were met outside by two people who the emergency workers believed to be working at the day care, officials said.

The 1-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, the police said, and a 2-year-old boy and a 7-month-old girl were taken to Montefiore Medical Center and were in stable condition. A 2-year-old boy was taken to Bronx Health Care systems and was also in stable condition, the police said.

After the children were removed from the day care, Fire Department units tested the premises for environmental hazards and found no evidence of carbon monoxide, officials said.
