18 years ago, to play Call of Duty 2 physically, you had to install it using six discs. And he was not the one who had the most

Currently, when we see that a video game occupies tens of GB, we put our hands to our heads and we go crazy thinking about what we can uninstall to make room for it when installing it. It is what we have to live in the digital age in which we currently find ourselves, although the physical format continues to give war and in general, the title that today is made up of more than one disc is rare.

However, in the past the physical format had a greater presence and the discs did not have the same capacity compared to today’s Blu-Ray. Before the latter we had DVDs and long before the CDsthe first types of discs in which the games began to be distributed after the mythical floppy disks.

Perhaps some of these latest products will sound Chinese to someone who was born in this century, but the truth is that a few generations ago we had cases as curious as that of call of duty 2. Activision’s FPS was released 18 years ago and at that time required a total of six CDs for its corresponding installation.

A huge collection of records where you were doomed if you erased it and lost or broke one of them, because then it was impossible to play again. It may seem crazy, although it was not the title that included the most CDs in its box, because in 1995 the classic went on sale phantasmagoria for PC and SEGA Saturn and there required seven and eight cdsrespectively.

Victory for all: Sony has signed Microsoft's agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation

But there are even more striking cases such as that of everquest IImade up of a total of nine CDs dedicated to the game itself and an additional one with extra content. So this meant that you would end up with a huge stack of CDs for a few games, but thanks to the digital format some of these problems have been remedied, because for example any of the mentioned games are available through Steam.

Of course, the situation in which we found ourselves relatively recently is surprising and how has it changed in a couple of decades. So we’ve gone from having to open the drive over and over again to change CDs to having to press a single button to install the game and start playing after a few minutes.
