Most people came to NRW from the Ukraine after the start of the war. In 2021, significantly fewer Ukrainians had moved to NRW.

227,100 people from Ukraine moved to North Rhine-Westphalia last year. The State Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Düsseldorf that 24,600 people had moved from NRW to Ukraine or returned there in the course of 2022.

Throughout the year 2021that is, before Russia’s attack on Ukraine, were only 1,700 immigrants from Ukraine counted to NRW (year 2020: 1,600 arrivals / year 2019: 2,300 arrivals).

Die most people (146,000) came immediately after the start of the war in the months from March to May 2022.
