Between 2001 and 2008, Genaro Garcia Luna received million-dollar bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel, according to what the drug trafficker Sergio “El Grande” Villarreal declared on Monday, who is one of the key witnesses against the former secretary of public security in the trial in the United States.

According to the testimony of “El Grande”, García Luna received on a monthly basis between one million and one and a half million dollars from the Sinaloa cartel, by way of bribes to let them operate in the country. Which contributed to the expansion of this criminal organization.

In addition, the drug trafficker pointed out that García Luna also gave them confidential information about the investigations and operations that were carried out to combat drug trafficking in Mexico at that time. Likewise, “El Grande” assured that these bribes were paid by Arturo Beltran Leyva.
