The SC Potsdam volleyball players have reached the final of the German championship. The Brandenburg women also won the second game in the playoff semifinals against Schweriner SC on Wednesday evening. In front of 2050 spectators, Potsdam won 3-0 (30:28, 25:21, 25:22) in the sold-out MBS Arena. After the 3:2 success in the first encounter, the runners-up ended the best-of-three series against the cup winners with 2:0 victories.

After an exciting run, captain Laura Emonts used the second match point for coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez’s team to a surprise victory. As in the previous year, SC Potsdam’s opponent in the final is defending champion MTV Stuttgart.

Made the first sentence unnecessarily exciting

The hostesses made the first set against Schwerin unnecessarily exciting. After a comfortable 14:8 lead, the team temporarily lost their line and in the end had to fend off three set balls from Schwerin.

Without their main attacker Tutku Yüzgenc, who was sidelined as in the first leg due to back problems, the guests found no means against the opponent, who worked very effectively in defence. The Dutchman Hester Jasper was in great form at SC Potsdam, especially in the final phase of the second half, and thus made a significant contribution to the 2-0 lead.

SC Potsdam remained stable after that. In the final section, Laura Emonts made up for the 19:20 deficit against a Schwerin block of three and gave her team a 21:20 lead at the next rally. As a result, Schwerin no longer had the strength to turn the game around again. (dpa)
