Late last week, Microsoft confirmed that the company is cutting 10,000 jobs. Halo developer 343 Industries was among the departments reportedly affected, and it didn’t take long for rumors to swirl about changes at the studio.

Among other things, the website reported Subway that other studios were reportedly ready to take over Halo. However, 343 reports that it is not done with Master Chief.

– Halo and Master Chief are here to stay. 343 Industries will continue to make Halo now and into the future, including epic stories, multiplayer and more of what makes Halo so great, studio head Pierre Hintze said in a statement on Twitter.

The article continues below the Twitter message.

Admittedly, the stark statement does not say whether 343 will continue as the lead Halo developer. In other words, Microsoft can bring in other development teams to make Halo games either together with 343 or as separate projects.

All the drama follows a turbulent period for Halo. The series’ most recent entry – Halo Infinite – struggled for a long time to get onto store shelves, and despite positive reviews, fans expressed a lot of dissatisfaction with the game.

Patrick Wren, former multiplayer designer on Halo Infinite, has also come out hard against Microsoft after the layoffs at 343. On Twitter wrote Wren that the difficult situation is the result of incompetent management during the development of Halo Infinite, which created a poor working situation for the developers.
