A new company appears in Valea Jiului

Romania must give up, according to European commitments, coal-based energy production. This is the reason why the Hunedoara Energy Complex reached the brink of bankruptcy and with only 2,000 employees out of tens of thousands.

“In Valea Jiului we are currently talking about 2,000 miners from 55,000 in 1990. The Hunedoara Energy Complex is on the verge of bankruptcy and we are looking for a solution that will be very short-term and together with the Valea Jiului Energy Complex we can keep these exploitations and we are making the mines safe until 2032”, Sebastian Burduja, the Minister of Energy, recently said to DC NEWS.

The Ministry of Energy is preparing for this fall the commissioning of a new company, the Valea Jiului Energy Complex. In this sense, a payment procedure must be set up from the Hunedoara Energy Complex to the Valea Jiului Energy Complex.

Why is the Government holding a meeting for the miners of Valea Jiului

The Ministry of Energy announced a few days ago that it is preparing two GDs through which 50 million lei are allocated from the Budgetary Reserve Fund available to the Prime Minister for the financing of the new company Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA and through which a Service of General Economic Interest for mine safety and coal mining activities in the Jiului Valley.

For the provision of the public interest service by Societatea Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA, in the remaining months of 2023, fair compensation will be granted in the amount of 65,804,000 RON, fully borne from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Energy, in in order to support the costs of the units in the closing process, costs that are not related to current production.

Complexul Energetic Valea Jiului SA will take over the functional assets of Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA in the next period. The 2000 miners and staff from Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA will be employed in the new Complex.
