TJ Maxx is one of those stores where I can go every week and always find something new that intrigues me. You’d be surprised how much you could save on your next shopping spree by going on the right day of the week or knowing what to look for on the price tag. It’s not stuff that TJ Maxx advertises – it’s kind of like insider information – but it’s useful for successful travels because we all know TJ Maxx stores tell you what you want once as you walk. (It’s okay, we all went with a basket full of things we hadn’t planned to buy that day.)

There are tons of hidden shopping tips that could save you money everyday. did you know Amazon has a hidden coupon page? To want shop at Costco without a subscription? It’s totally possible, and it can be delivered right to your front door. Let’s go over some tips to help you make your next big shopping spree at TJ Maxx the best one yet.

When you shop, it matters

Most TJ Maxx stores have markdowns on Monday mornings, making it the best time of the week to shop if you’re looking for a bargain. You’ll want to peek around the store for yellow tags on items indicating they’re on clearance. Some of them will be in designated clearance sections, while others will be mixed with the rest of similar items.

While weekends may be the most convenient time for many of us to head to the local TJ Maxx store, it’s actually one of the worst times to shop. Stores only receive deliveries on weekdays, which means the weekend doesn’t offer new inventory and that’s before the next round of markdowns.

Check all items, even if they are the same

Normally, you would expect that if you find an item and check the price, all individual units of that item will all be at that price, but that’s not always the case at TJ Maxx. Sometimes part of the stock is marked down while the rest sells at full price. It has to do with how long the store has had the item, and by simply checking the price tag on all units, you may be able to save some money on the purchase. It’s super simple and only takes a second longer to do, so be sure to give it a try the next time you’re in the store.

If you like something you see, then buy it

One of the perks of shopping at TJ Maxx is that inventory is always rotating, so there’s plenty of new stuff to see every time you walk in, but that can also work against you. If you see something you like and think you might want to buy it, don’t put it off. Seriously. Chances are that the next time you enter (even if you go back the same day) there will be no more and you will have missed your chance.

This especially applies to yellow-labeled items, as these are final markdown prices and indicate that this is the lowest price at which you will be able to purchase that item.

Pet accessories are among the store’s best buys

You might not immediately think of buying beds and other accessories for your furry friends at TJ Maxx, but if you don’t check out the pet section, you’re missing out on some great discounts. There are often branded items at a fraction of the normal price, and most of the time TJ Maxx even beats Amazon prices. It’s easy to find toys for a few dollars and new high-end pet beds starting around $20.

Damaged items can save you even more

Sometimes when shopping at TJ Maxx you will notice a piece of furniture or decor that has minor cosmetic damage. While this might be an outing for many people, it’s also an opportunity to get this at a discount. Often, if you ask for a discount at checkout (before you buy it!), TJ Maxx will lower the price for you.

The exception to this is if the item is on the sales floor and already marked down with an “as is” tag on it.

Frequent buyers may wish to register for the TJX Rewards credit card

While we wouldn’t recommend signing up for another credit card to fuel your shopping habits, if you’re a frequent TJ Maxx customer, it could save you some money. On the first purchase, you save 10% for opening the card, then you save 5% on each subsequent purchase.

You’ll want to look at how much you’re spending there, what your current payment method is, and if it could save you any money. This only has an advantage if you pay the bill every month, otherwise the interest charges will likely outweigh any savings you’ll make in the store.
