Chili.- “I was bathing her one day and after drying her and putting cream on her, I noticed that she had a little bean under her nipple. There the doctor stressed to me that what Maura had was not normal. This is part of the story told by Patricia Muñoz, mother of Maura, a 7-year-old girl diagnosed with breast cancer.

The mother explained to 24 Hours that it was the doctor who confirmed the presence of an anomaly when the minor was five years old. Two months later, the minor was confirmed as the first patient of a very young age to suffer from breast cancer.

The same president of the Chilean Association of Cancer Patients, Felipe Tagle, revealed that there are no cases that resemble what Maura is suffering from.

“There is no such case worldwide. The only resemblance she has is that of a girl who was diagnosed with a similar cancer at the age of 10 in the United States. It is one in 200 million; Maura’s may be one in 400 million,” Tagle said.

The minor from Quillota received a breast extraction operation to remove the compromised tissue, and now her family is waiting for the reports to find out if a metastasis occurred.

“My daughter is mutilated and that is the pain that I have, because I mean, it is strong for an adult (…). I have photos of Maura and I cry. The only thing that she has mentioned to me when I take her to the oncologist is that she does not want to be bald, but beyond that she does not understand that she does not have her breast, ”she related.

Dr. Tagle explained that one of the options that the family can take is for Maura to start with a therapy for cases of breast cancer in young people developed in Spain.

“If there is no metastasis, there is a radiation process that, being a very special patient, very small, there are no records for that type of radiation either,” added Tagle.
