70 million people will travel for the 4th of July holiday

Millions of Americans will be traveling this week for the July 4th holiday.

Triple A projects that around 70 million people will travel this week and into next weekend.

The agency says tomorrow is actually the best day to hit the road, but if that’s too early, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning are also good times to travel.

The worst will be Wednesday night and the 4th itself. Air travel is expected to be the busiest on Wednesday.

Drivers can celebrate lower gas prices, which are down 17 percent at the pump compared to this time last year.

And if you’re staying in town for the Fourth of July, there are still plenty of fun events to enjoy.

Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show returns to the West Side this year, lighting up along the Hudson River.

The show starts around 9:30 on Thursday night.

There are many other community fireworks celebrations taking place across the city this week, including at Coney Island, in the Rockaways and at Co-Op City in the Bronx.

If you plan to celebrate at home, state officials are reminding New Yorkers of the importance of staying safe. It is illegal to buy fireworks in New York. If you are at a gathering, keep fireworks away from children, never point fireworks at people, cars or buildings, light them only one at a time, and store them in a cool, dry place. And be sure to follow the instructions and be sober when starting them.

Every year, more than 19,000 fires caused by fireworks are reported nationwide.
