At least 6 youngsters are shot outside a church after celebrating Juneteenth

MILWAUKEE — At least six youths were shot Monday afternoon near where Milwaukee’s June 16 celebration had just ended, according to police and fire officials.

The shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. outside the Greater Philadelphia Church of God in Christ, according to witnesses and a Facebook Live video taken by a bystander immediately after the shooting, according to local news outlets.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said six youths were shot, including a 17-year-old who may have been a gunman and is in custody. Police were still looking for additional suspects who had not yet been identified.

Police said the victims were between the ages of 14 and 19.

Norman said the shooting may have been caused by a fight between several girls and young women, but he did not know what sparked the dispute. The injuries to the injured varied but did not appear to be life-threatening, the chief said.
