Mark Hyman, a physician specializing in longevity, revealed that his morning routine includes a protein shake.

Despite being 63 years old, the doctor told the Insider that his biological age is 43thanks in part to the way he starts his days.

After 30 minutes of strength training, he drinks a shake he calls a “healthy aging shake”. This one is full of plant nutrients, healthy fats and protein, which helps build and maintain muscle.

“As you age, muscle mass is more important. It is a critical piece of healthy aging,” he said.

And the smoothie recipe is simple: berries, collagen, almond or nut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds, courgette, MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides), and unsweetened almond or macadamia milk. The doctor also adds 48 grams of whey protein.

Writing about his morning shake on Instagram, Mark pointed out that many are too high in sugar.

“The seeds, almond butter and MCT oil are a source of healthy fats to keep you energized, full and focused. Collagen has healing and anti-aging properties and I try to use veggies like frozen courgette or cauliflower to add some creaminess to my smoothie rather than relying on bananas, which are high in sugar.

The doctor mainly uses low-glycemic fruit, such as blueberries, which are rich in antioxidants.

“This type of smoothie will leave you feeling good all morning,” he said.
