To share :

The last time we were able to play Call of Duty on a Nintendo console was in 2013 on WiiU with the episode Call of Duty: Ghosts. Since then, the franchise has avoided the Japanese manufacturer. But a new page in this common history could be written in the years to come.

Call of Duty at the center of tensions

You are aware that the license Call of Duty is currently at the heart of tensions between Microsoft, Sony and regulators as part of Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard King. Sony does not want this franchise, which brings in a lot of money on many platforms, to fall into the hands of a manufacturer who would be able to make it a huge exclusiveand to distort the game. To reassure players and regulators, Microsoft has stated that it has no interest in making Call of Duty exclusive and in depriving itself significant income. The Redmond firm even went further, proposing to sign agreements if necessary in order to guarantee the release of the franchise’s games on multiple media.

For the moment, nothing has been signed with Sony, which still intends to defeat the takeover and retain its advantages, but this is not the case for everyone. Last December, Phil Spencer announced the signing of two agreements in principle, which will activate if redemption occurs. The first chord relates to Nintendo, who agreed to sign Microsoft’s pledge to release Call of Duty games on Nintendo Switch and its successor console during 10 years. As for the second agreement, it was signed with Valve and indicates that Call of Duty games will continue to be released on Steam simultaneously.

Microsoft entered into a 10-year commitment to release Call of Duty at Nintendo following the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King. Microsoft is committed to bringing more games to more people, however they choose to play. I’m also pleased to confirm that Microsoft is committed to continuing to bring Call of Duty to Steam concurrently. on Xbox after the closing of the merger with Activision Blizzard King.
