An 81-year-old Cuban who was a fugitive from justice in the United States was arrested in the Dominican Republic accused of a murder committed in 2005, that is, almost 20 years ago.

The subject, identified as Leomar Valdés Martínez, was wanted not only for murder, but also for “asset laundering” in Miami, according to a statement from the Specialized Anti-Money Laundering Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Special Organized Crime Investigation Division. International (DEICROI), an entity attached to the Dominican police.

At the time of arrest Valdés Martínez lived illegally in the city of San Pedro de Macorís where heaccording to the local press, had amassed a fortune.

In the raid on his home, they seized documents related to his trial in the United States, despite the fact that he flatly denies his criminal involvement.

After his arrest, the Cuban was extradited to Miami and already appeared in court this Tuesdaywhere he was formally charged with first-degree murder and held without bail.

Leomar Valdés was considered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) an armed and highly dangerous fugitive, who provided false information to avoid his capture.

The Cuban is accused of the murder of a man named Eduardo Rojos, who on November 24, 2005 was fatally shot inside his vehicle near the Cantina Don Goyo, in Miami-Dade County.
