After the Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, stated in January that Argentina has “the opportunity to condition the global lithium market”a historical sales record was reached in the month of March.

Thus, in the third month of the year, a total of US$ 91 million was achieved, which means an interannual growth in the amounts exported of 93%. So, according to what the Ministry of Mining stated, in the first quarter of the year some US$ 233 million were sold, that is, 133% year-on-year more than in 2022.

At the same time, the quantities exported increased 3.5% year-on-year, therefore, in the accumulated so far this year, an increase of 22.9% was exhibited. Notably lithium exports represent 27% of total mining activity.

For her part, the Secretary of Mining, Fernanda Ávila, stressed that “mining will allow diversifying the productive matrix of the country so as not to depend solely on one sector and thus turn the activity into a pillar of development.” She also made it clear that “Argentina is establishing itself as a key player worldwide in this context of transition towards clean energy.”

If it continues along this path, Argentina could develop six projects, which are currently under construction, that would allow by 2025 increase production capacity to more than 200 thousand tons.
