The Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillofcelebrated this Monday the progress of work on the descent of the La Plata-Buenos Aires Highwayat 520 avenue in the provincial capital, with an investment of $1,000 million.

“Work continues on the road distributor that will connect the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway with Avenida 520. A key investment to improve mobility and productivity in the region”the Governor posted on his official Twitter account, with the hashtag #RighttotheFuture.

Along with his publication, Kicillof shared an institutional video that summarizes the progress of the work with the aim of speeding up traffic and improving connectivity in the region.

This is a strategic project of the National University of La Plata (UNLP) to promote urban development in the Buenos Aires capital and areas of influence to optimize light and heavy vehicular traffic.

In the territory of La Plata, there are currently only two descents: one at the height of Villa Elise and the other at the end of the route at the height of diagonal 74. The original project foresees two more descents: In addition to the 520, there is another projected at the height of the Ecological Park.

It should be noted that avenue 520 (Provincial Route 13) with which the new descent will connect is a fundamental artery in the Greater La Plata region, that links National Route 2 and Provincial Route 36 with La Platathe zone of petrochemical hub of Ensenada and Puerto La Plata. It crosses the horticultural and floricultural productive zone of the region, in addition to being the seat of numerous industrial companies, commercial service centers, hospitals, and the Regional Market.

The highway concentrates a high flow of private, public and cargo transport. Because there is still no connection to the highway, it congests the descent closest to diagonal 74, which is the access to the Buenos Aires capital.

With the materialization of this descent, it will be possible to decompress the existing traffic in diagonal 74, favoring a more balanced distribution of vehicular flows throughout the regional territory.
