Tegucigalpa.- Nicaraguan Ramón Antonio Argeñal was sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in the murder of a police officer and a civilian during an assault that occurred in the Río San Juan department of Nicaragua, on the border with Costa Rica, the judicial authorities reported Monday.

Argeñal, also sentenced to 103 years in prison, was the only one sentenced of the six accused by the Nicaraguan Public Ministry for the crime of a police officer and a worker from a cocoa company, as well as a robbery, and four other crimes, occurred on October 1, 2022.

The 55-year-old man was convicted of the crimes of aggravated robbery, simple kidnapping, organized crime, use and trafficking of restricted weapons, aggravated murder and frustrated murder.

In his sentence, Judge Rojas sentenced Argeñal to life imprisonment for the aggravated murder of 21-year-old officer Aracely Marisol Díaz.

He also sentenced him to 75 years in prison for five frustrated murders to the detriment of the same number of victims, 8 years for use and trafficking of restricted weapons, 7 years for organized crime, 7 years for aggravated robbery, and 6 years for kidnapping. simple.

The man will finish serving his sentence on November 16, 2125, according to the sentence.

However, the judge explained that the 103 years in prison are reduced to 30 years by constitutional provision, and in the case of life imprisonment it is reviewable.
