To the sound of music synthwave apropos (composed by the prolific Raphaël Gesquaalready a composer on the Flashback of the Amiga), Conrad, seated on a digital throne, declaims a monologue in order to resituate the context of Flashback 2. The voice of Donald Reignoux (Spidey’s voice actor in the Spider-Man from Insomniac Games) resonates and accompanies excerpts from gameplay to aesthetics cyberpunk licked. The atmosphere is delicious and the promise is beautiful, because from the first moving images there is no doubt: Flashback 2 marks a very strong relationship with its illustrious elder. Only 2D seems to have mutated into 2.5D.

Flashback to the Future

The trailer of gameplay uploaded by Microïds shows that when scrolling horizontally Flashback first of the name will therefore be added depth management. Conrad, still in his quest to eliminate the Morphs, his emblematic enemies, seems to have retained a certain heaviness and inertia of 30 years ago. Although the title has evolved into a more contemporary form, its essence should be retained, since in an official statement the publisher states that Flashback 2 will be a “Nervous platform-shooter video game, mixed with exploration, puzzle solving“. The fact that Paul Cuisset brought together former members of his team who had worked on the original title, including Thierry Perreau (Fade to Black, Moto Racer) to game design, is no stranger to this perpetuation of identity.

Serious collectors will be delighted to learn that Flashback 2 will arrive both on dematerialized stalls and in stores, with limited and collector’s editions.
