On Saturday, a demonstrator in a brown monk’s costume pushed a police officer into the mud. He wasn’t arrested. His identity will therefore remain in the dark. Was the man an activist? Was he a resident? Was he a Protestant?

What drove him to push and whether he would like to undo his act will probably never be known either.

The policeman landed softly, the monk was not guilty of any physical harm. One may have tried. Or an assault on law enforcement officers. So he will certainly not be interested in going public and describing the process from his point of view – no matter how viral the videos of this scene go.

As a journalist and in general as a curious person, this is difficult to bear. One would very much like to know the story of the man. Has he ever done anything like this before? Why, shortly before, he gave another police officer who was also stuck in the mud an encouraging pat on the shoulder. And of course: why monk’s habit? It hurts us journalists not being able to write more than “This is how the network reacted to the monk from Lützerath” in such situations.

Even the thief from the bathing lake never showed up

Unfortunately, that happens more often. The person who stole the clothes from the then AfD leader Alexander Gauland in the summer of 2018 while he was bathing in a lake in Potsdam has remained unknown to this day.

I had firmly expected that sooner or later the thief would report to some newspaper and reveal in an interview whether it was planned, how he came to his exclamation “Nazis don’t need bathing fun”, where the clothes are now. It would certainly help with the classification, also with the assessment of what was happening. But the perpetrator remained disciplined and under cover. Maybe he just didn’t feel like it.

The worst case of continued secrecy I suffer to this day is called “Antifa tick bite”. This is the Twitter account that, four and a half years ago, published a 19-second video under the heading “Menschenhunt in Chemnitz” in the summer.

It shows migrants being chased by an angry mob and called “Kanaken”. Since the voice of a woman can be heard in the background, who apparently wants to stop her partner from hunting and therefore says “Rabbit, you stay here”, the document is on Wikipedia as “Hasi Video” listed.

A debate broke out about the recording, which showed, among other things, what a terrible mistake it was to make a person like Hans-Georg Maaßen President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Who is behind “Antifa Zeckenbiss”?

Since then I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to persuade the creator(s) behind “Antifa Zeckenbiss” to meet. I found it amazing that an account with this name acted so much more trustworthy and enlightening than the head of the intelligence agency with his distortions of the truth. I would have liked to have spoken about that.

Of course, I assured anonymity and offered a non-binding preliminary talk. One of my messages said, “I would be willing to take any precaution you could think of!” I would even have been willing to have a plastic bucket pulled over my head. I offered that too.

Nothing helped. All requests were repeatedly politely but firmly denied. At some point I felt like a stalker.

I’ve been following this account for years now. I’m convinced it’s run by democrats of integrity. It’s all the more annoying that “Antifa Zeckenbiss” doesn’t want to meet me.

Maybe someone I know personally is behind it. But everyone I’ve asked denies it.
