New technologies are at the service of our health. The proof with the Apple Watch which (again) saved a life thanks to its blood oxygen sensor!

A complete medical diagnosis from a selfie
Imagine using a 30-second video captured by your smartphone’s front camera to get a full medical diagnosis. This is the promise of the Caducy technology developed by the French start-up i-Virtual. The diagnosis includes respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure or stress level. In the future, i-Virtual hopes to add blood oxygen level detection.
Gaël Constancin, manager of i-Virtual, tells Tech&Co that these “ physiological parameters […] will be measured thanks to the skin of the face “. Hence the necessary video selfie!
The algorithm uses the non-contact photoplethysmography to detect pulse waveforms, chest movements and blood flow.
Caducy tries to reach the most customers by being compatible with all smartphones, even the oldest ones like the iPhone 6. But a PC webcam (if the software validates its quality) or a tablet can also be used.
Technology available for teleconsultations
Caducy is however not available for users to download. This technology is offered by teleconsultation platforms. Various sites dedicated to health can use it like insurances or mutuals. In terms of future use, a doctor will be able to more easily track a patient remotely.
In the future, i-Virtual intends to offer its technology beyond European borders. Present in Switzerland, Italy and Portugal, it will soon be exported to Scandinavian countries.
