Abderrazak Makri is an Algerian politician who led the Islamist party “Movement of the Society for Peace” (MSP) for two full terms. Although he left the presidency of his party, the second political force in the Algerian parliament, he did not leave the political scene.

In this exclusive interview with ‘Al-Quds Al-Arabi’ newspaper, he speaks for the first time about the possibility of running in next year’s presidential elections, making it clear that he has the will and ability to become President of Algeria. He wonders, however, if the opportunity to compete with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, if he decides to run for a second term, is really present.

The presidential elections of 2024 will certainly be placed under the sign of political resistance. Abderrazak Makri says that if a dialogue with the president and the authorities were to take place before the elections, it would help to better understand the situation. For him, as for any political activist who has dedicated his life to the struggle, presidential elections depend on three key factors: will, ability and opportunity.

A possible candidacy of Makri for the Algerian presidency

Indeed, in this exclusive interview granted to “Al-Quds Al-Arabi”, Abderrazak Makri declared that he had the will and the capacity to become president of Algeria. However, he questions the real opportunity to compete against President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, if the latter stands for a second term. He therefore remains uncertain about a possible candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.

Abderrazak Makri expresses his strong desire to become President of the Republic to achieve what he has always aspired to accomplish: to serve his country and develop it by ensuring the well-being of society, the dignity of citizens, strength and protection of the nation, and contributing to the rebirth of the Arab and Islamic nation, as well as to the liberation of Palestine.

The Islamist leader considers himself capable of assuming responsibility for the highest office of the state thanks to his long experience in politics, his oversight of the government through parliament, his leadership of the MSP and its institutions, his vast culture and the foundation of intellectual and educational institutions that produce programs and alternatives.

To conclude, he also set up an alternative program and a network of skills that worked with him, coming from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.
