Aerosmith bows out. The rock group, author of hits like Dream On or I Don’t Want to Miss a Thingannounces on Monday that he will begin his farewell tour next September, 53 years after his debut.

Entitled “Peace Out” (“salvation”), this tour will begin on September 2 in Philadelphia. Forty concerts are planned, with a passage on December 31 in Boston, their hometown. The tour will end on January 26 in Montreal.

This isn’t the band’s first farewell tour. In 2017, their previous farewell tour passed through France and Hellfest, but was canceled due to the health of Steven Tyler. Another European tour was scheduled to take place in 2020, before being canceled due to the pandemic.

“As Long as We’re All Still Here”

“It was time (to say goodbye),” said guitarist Joe Perry in a press release. “We are lucky to be able to celebrate our 50th birthday while we are all still here.” Joe Perry, like vocalist Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitarist Brad Whitford are all over 70.

“It’s unclear how long everyone will be healthy doing this stuff,” added Joe Perry. “It’s been a while since we last toured. We did a residency in Las Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but now I can’t wait to tour again.”

Drummer Joey Kramer is not expected to tour. He is still part of the squad, but will be replaced by John Douglas. Joey Jramer “has been focusing on his family and his health” since the end of their residency in Las Vegas, according to Joe Perry.

Over 150 million albums

Winner of four Grammy Awards, Aerosmith has sold over 150 million albums, and made music history with tracks like Dream On, Crazy, Janie’s Got a Gun, Livin’ on the Edge, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way or I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing (for the soundtrack of the film Armageddon).

Members of Aerosmith were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. The magazine Rolling Stone ranked them in 2005 at number 57 in the top 100 greatest artists of all time.
