AfD boss: Asylum procedures should take place in the country of origin or at the EU’s external border
Tino Chrupalla: Ukrainians should find shelter in Poland and Syrians in Turkey
Osnabruck. In the discussion about increasing asylum numbers in Germany, AfD party leader Tino Chrupalla spoke out in favor of asylum centers on the EU’s external borders. “Asylum procedures should take place in the country of origin or at the EU’s external border if possible,” said the politician of the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (NOZ). There must be “quick procedures in the centers, and only those who have a positive asylum decision are allowed to enter the EU.”
His party advocates accommodation for asylum seekers close to the border. “Ukrainians, for example, should find protection in Poland and Syrians in Turkey,” said Chrupalla. Germany could support this financially. “The sometimes unlawful accommodation of so many people with a different mentality in our country has nothing to do with the original idea of the right to asylum.”
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had previously declared that she would work with other EU countries for preliminary asylum checks at the EU’s external border.
