Although Matthäus can understand the disappointment and the pressure, he expects all officials who are on the sidelines “to make the right choice of words” and “to be in control”.

Nagelsmann himself had seen his misconduct on Saturday evening and apologized to the referee team led by Tobias Welz via Twitter. Although emotions are part of the sport, he must apologize for his choice of words. “Unfortunately I went too far there”states the Bayern coach.

However, Lothar Matthäus does not believe that the cause would have been settled with an apology. “Now just a sponge over it – that doesn’t settle the matter,” says the Sky expert. “It’s a topic that will make the headlines for the next few days. That’s why I believe that not only the DFB, but also FC Bayern calls their employees to report.”

Table leadership in danger
