The aid of 6,000 euros for hiring a work-study student will be maintained “until the end of the quinquennium” in order to reach the goal of one million apprentices in 2027, announced this Friday, January 6 the Ministry of Labor in a press release.

In the continuity of the aid decided during the Covid crisis to avoid the collapse of hiring, the government announced on December 1 that aid of 6,000 euros would be paid to all companies, for contracts concluded in 2023 with a alternating, minor as major, for the first year of the contract.

Grandes écoles: is apprenticeship a good plan?

“In order to strengthen access to apprenticeships for the least qualified young people, this aid will continue in the years to come to continue to support a training system that has proven itself for youth employment”underlines the ministry in a press release.

One in five jobs created after an apprenticeship

“This renewed support will allow companies to anticipate better and therefore facilitate the hiring of young people: more than 800,000 contracts have been signed this year and we continue to aim for one million apprentices per year by 2027”welcomed the Minister of Labor Olivier Dussopt and the Minister Delegate for Vocational Training Carole Grandjean.

According to INSEE, nearly a fifth of net job creations over the past year are due to apprenticeships. Accessible to young people aged 16 to 29, apprenticeship is based on the principle of alternating between theoretical education and vocational training with the employer with whom the apprentice has signed his contract.

“Apprenticeships are a miracle cure for youth unemployment”

Its growth is explained both by the 2018 reform (which notably liberalized the opening of training centers and extended apprenticeship to 26-29 year olds) and by hiring bonuses.

This very strong growth since 2018 has been increased to 75% by training at bac +2 level or more, according to the Ministry of Labor. Higher education training can indeed be eligible for this hiring bonus, which was not the case before the Covid crisis.
