Dusseldorf.
The warning strike at Düsseldorf Airport on Friday could be followed by an indefinite one. Verdi threatened Transport Minister Krischer with this today.

Düsseldorf Airport is threatened with an indefinite strike in baggage handling. This was announced by the Verdi union on Tuesday in an open letter to NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (Greens). A decision will be made in a week. During a warning strike on Friday, 110 take-offs and landings in Düsseldorf had already been canceled.

The background to this is the Ministry’s decision not to take Aviapartner into account when issuing licenses for handling from April 1st. “With this decision, you have put 700 jobs at risk and severely damaged Düsseldorf Airport,” criticized the Verdi wage commission.

Acquisition on worse terms

As reported, Aviapartner’s successors are willing to take on most, if not all, of the employees, but on worse terms, according to Verdi. “By choosing the cheapest provider, you are promoting dumping wages, insecure working conditions and, at the end of the day, cheap flights at the Düsseldorf location,” criticizes Verdi.

Krischer should campaign for collective bargaining

An attempt was made to contact Krischer before the strike in order to find solutions together, but so far there has been no answer. “We expect that he will work to ensure that the new companies are bound by collective agreements so that vested rights can be adopted and the chaos does not increase,” said Verdi trade union secretary Marvin Reschinsky. In view of the unclear situation, “certainly 150 people” had already looked for other jobs. However, the experience of the past few years shows that you need everyone at the airport.
