President Alberto Fernández met in the Quinta de Olivos with the pro-government legislators Germán Martínez, president of the Frente de Todos bloc in Deputies, and Carolina Gaillard, head of the Impeachment Committee, and delivered the impeachment request to the members of the Supreme Court of Justice. In addition, he called for “prompt legislative treatment.” The president aspires to call extraordinary sessions on January 15.
Within the communiqué released by the Government, it is highlighted that the request for Impeachment of the members of the Court has the support of “the governors”. There are currently 11 provincial leaders who support the prosecution, since Gustavo Bordet from Entre Ríos dissociated himself from the official request against the CSJN.
Within the request for Impeachment of the courtiers, the Government alleges “poor performance” of its functions due to the alleged political ties with the Buenos Aires administration headed by the opposition leader, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta. At the same time, they detail that the successive rulings of the highest court that favored the opposition.
The Government aspires to deal with the request as soon as possible, and is preparing to call extraordinary sessions on January 15. Since then, the political trial could be dealt with on a table, if the ruling party obtains a commission opinion, which is possible since it has 16 deputies out of the 31 that compose it.
The Frente de Todos has 16 deputies in the Political Judgment Commission, which ensures a simple majority: Germán Martínez, Leopodo Moreau, Hugo Yasky, Vanesa Siley, Rodolfo Tahilade, Marcos Cleri, Juan Manuel Pedrini, Hernan Pérez Araujo, Micaela Moran , Vanesa Massetani, Mario Leito, Leonardo Grosso, Ramiro Gutierrez, José Luis Gioja and the president of the commission, Carolina Gaillard. Therefore, it is expected that within a period of no more than 60 days, the impeachment project will be ready to be brought to the compound.
However, the panorama would be more complicated in the venue, where a majority of two thirds of those present is needed, with which they should convince part of the opposition to vote with them.
