alert about the water service affected by the drought / the day

As a result of the high temperatures and the lack of rain that caused the second most important drought in the last 60 years, the population was urged to take care of water.

According to the analysis of a group of experts, the Province is experiencing the lowest water availability since records exist.

The distribution company indicated that high temperatures and prolonged drought expose the drinking water service to permanent stress in summer.

According to experts, the core area of the country, where the province of Buenos Aires is located, is suffering from the second most important drought in the last 60 years. This is reflected in the lowest water availability since records exist.

Nor is the fact that the high summer temperatures increase water consumption and this deepens the crisis, in this case, due to high demand.

It was reported that the combination of scarcity and high consumption is replicated in the more than 90 localities in which Aguas Bonaerenses (ABSA) provides service throughout the entire provincial territory.

Within this framework, there was talk of promoting behaviors that can reduce the negative impact that natural conditions impose on this hostile scenario in terms of water.

Raising awareness and restricting non-priority uses are some of the measures that were suggested so as not to aggravate the panorama.

Among the tips is to avoid recreational consumption of water, filling pools with mains water, washing cars, as well as postponing the watering of sidewalks and green spaces during the day. It was clarified that these measures reduce the stress of a necessary service for everyone.

“In this way, it will be possible to migrate towards consumption habits consistent with instances of hydration and essential household chores that allow optimizing the availability of water to all users,” it was reported in a statement.

Drought impact

It was analyzed that the main drawback of the service lies in the impact that the extensive drought produces on the aquifers. These are the key source of water collection in all the areas that today are experiencing difficulties in provision.

Absa reported that the sustained decrease in the volume of rainfall in the last two years affected the natural recharge of the Puelche Aquifer, a layer of water from which the liquid is extracted in the areas of the Province that are supplied with groundwater.

Due to this situation, it was indicated that ABSA is working on the adaptation of the perforations that allow achieving sustained yields in the extraction of water.

“Some of these actions are the replacement of equipment, the deepening of the perforations and the replacement of the pipes that make up the positions. However, these works are not possible in all the wells that go through this situation,” it was explained yesterday in a statement.

DISADVANTAGES IN THE REGION

Meanwhile, Aguas Bonaerenses reported that in a large area of the City there was a shortage in the pressure of the water service due to a work carried out on the aqueduct that crosses the Paseo del Bosque university circuit.

The company reported that since the early hours of yesterday work has been done to repair the aqueduct located on Calle 50, near the university dining room.

In that place, a leak was detected on an 800-millimeter pipe, and to carry out the task, the pumping capacity at the Bosque Elevator Station had to be reduced. This could have generated low pressure in the area comprised by the streets that go from 38 to 60, and from 1 to 13.

ABSA warned that the intervention was the first of a series of repairs that will be scheduled in the coming days, prioritizing the least impact on the service to users.

As this newspaper reported in previous editions, at the intersection of 50 and 120, a few meters from the UNLP Faculty of Informatics, a clean water lagoon was formed that flows from one of the main conduits of the network, which goes to the Center.

The neighbors indicated that the losses have been going on for several months and that they are under the asphalt, on Calle 50 towards 115. They also stated that in recent days there have also been losses on the sidewalks.

Meanwhile, from the company it was reported that during the first hours of today, a new repair will be carried out on the aqueduct located in Calle Baradero y el Puerto, Ensenada.

On this occasion, it is about the change of a joint on the 750-millimeter pipe that was repaired on Monday in another section. For this task, it is necessary to affect the service with low pressure or lack of water, in the area of Ensenada and Berisso until the completion of the works, estimated after noon.
