Nessim Hachaichi, an Algerian climber who had already achieved remarkable feats by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2022 and Mount Mera Peak in the Himalayas in October of the same year. For this marvelous adventure, Nessim Hachaichi had however to seek sponsors, because the costs of these expeditions became inaccessible for him alone. He therefore embarked on the search for sponsors by highlighting his experience in the field and praising his latest feat in the Himalayas.

However, this was not an easy task, since such expeditions had never been carried out in Algeria, and companies and organizations were reluctant to listen to him. Despite the promises, Nessim spent several weeks contacting people without seeing any concrete results. Meanwhile, he was beginning to envision a new adventure in the majestic Andes, with Aconcagua in Argentina as his initial goal.

Fortunately, Nessim managed to obtain a sponsor from a private organization, but the steps to obtain an Argentinian visa became more and more complicated. Finally, he was refused an Argentine visa without explanation, which deeply disappointed him, especially since he had already prepared everything for this prestigious expedition.

Despite this disappointment, Nessim did not give up and turned to the second highest peak on the American continent: the Nevados Ojos del Salado in Chile. He quickly took steps to obtain a Chilean visa in February and scheduled his departure for the beginning of March. However, the answer for his Chilean visa was long overdue and Nessim was beginning to lose hope of being able to leave this season, especially as the month of Ramadan was approaching.

On March 8, Nessim received the long-awaited answer, when he had almost given up hope. He immediately bought his plane ticket and prepared his things to start his adventure on March 11 from Algiers. Despite some ups and downs and administrative problems, Nessim was finally ready to embark on this thrilling new climb to the Nevados Ojos del Salado in Chile. The first stage of his adventure was about to begin.

Nessim Hechaichi’s adventure has been marked by many challenges and obstacles, but his determination and motivation to represent Algeria on National Victory Day pushed him to push his physical limits to the limit. and morals.

The beginnings of his journey were not easy, with visa problems that impacted his preparation. Despite this, Nessim redoubled his efforts to get up to speed and keep pace with the adventure. The first day of the ascent takes place at 3000 meters above sea level, then the second day it reaches 3750 meters in Laguna Santa Rosa, in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. The following days he spent time at Laguna Verde, 4300 meters above sea level, where he acclimatized by frequently climbing to over 5000 meters.

On March 16, Nessim and his team moved to the Atacama refuge, the first stage towards the summit of Nevados Ojos del Salado, located at 5200 meters above sea level. On March 17, they climbed to the Tejos refuge, at 5800 meters, to prepare for the final climb. They leave their belongings at the Tejos refuge and train every day to climb ever higher, preparing themselves mentally and physically for the ultimate challenge.

On Algeria’s Victory Day, March 19, 2023, Nessim and his team wake up at 3 a.m. and get their things ready for the final climb. Nessim does not forget to take his Algerian flag to wave at the top. They start their ascent at night, braving freezing cold and strong winds to soar to the summit. Every meter gained is a challenge, with snow and wind making the effort even more difficult.

Arrived at 6400 meters altitude, Nessim begins to feel tired, but his guide pushes him to continue. His motivation is at its height, because he represents Algeria on the day of the national holiday, coming from afar to carry the colors of his country high. He gives himself to the end of his physical and mental abilities, almost to exhaustion, to arrive at the bottom of the summit around 11 am.

But Nessim already knew that the last 50 meters of the climb are the most dangerous, so he had to climb them using a rope and maintaining his balance. After 30 minutes of a last ditch effort, the coveted peak finally appears. Nessim shouts with joy, proudly waves the national flag and places it on the top of Nevados Ojos del Salado.
