The Algerian Consumer Protection Organization previously relayed the distress call of 100 Algerian pilgrims who were allegedly abandoned in Saudi Arabia by their travel agency. Indeed, this SOS has gone around the web, but the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts has decided to come out of its silence and shed light on this matter.

As a reminder, the call in distress of these Algerian pilgrims dates back to May 5, the OPOCE announced that the hundred Algerian pilgrims, including 60 women, were expelled in a humiliating manner from their place of residence. And this, under the pretext of end of contract between the hotel in question and the travel agency.

Thus, according to the press release from the Algerian Consumer Protection Organization, the manager of the hotel in question asked these pilgrims to leave the premises. The Organization also pointed the finger at the recklessness of the Saudi agent in the face of this situation and called on the Ministry of Tourism, but also the National Office of Hajj and Umrah to intervene.

This call for help was widely broadcast on the web. Without waiting too long, the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts has decided to come out of its silence and react to this affair. Indeed, in a press release published last Saturday, May 6, the ministry denies the expulsion of its Algerian pilgrims from their place of residence.

In fact, the ministry has made it known, following the investigation carried out on this subject, in particular at the level of the wilaya of Biskra, where the agency in question operated, but also to its leader, that the Algerian pilgrims have not not been kicked out of their hotel.

The statement in question, the travel agency has ensured the residence of these pilgrims in the region of Azizyah near Mecca. In addition, the ministry recalled that the return of the first group, made up of 32 pilgrims, is scheduled for May 8, 2023. And that of the 2nd group, comprising 61 pilgrims, is scheduled for May 10.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts took the opportunity to invite travel agencies to arm themselves with professionalism as the 2023 Hajj season approaches and assume their commitments to pilgrims. Algerians.
