Alianza MinAgricultura y sector lácteo para impulsar la autosuficiencia lechera en Colombia

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with Asoleche and Alquería, is leading an alliance with the goal of achieving dairy self-sufficiency in the country and increasing its net export rate. The purpose of this strategic collaboration is to raise the productivity of the dairy sector to levels comparable to those of large regional producers, while strengthening the economic conditions of peasant families and contributing to national economic growth.

The initiative, currently in its initial feasibility phase, It is emerging as a public-private-popular scheme, with the active participation of the Rural Development Agency, Banco Agrario and Finagro. The implementation of this comprehensive strategy will focus on three key areas: Extensionism and Technical Assistance, Affordable Credits and Public Spraying Systems. The outlined vision is to raise the average daily production of milk per cow from 6.3 to 8 liters, a significant increase that would revitalize the Colombian dairy industry.

This Ministry of Agriculture project has been developed in four planned stages and it has successfully advanced in its pre-feasibility phases, led by the Presidency of the Republic through Professor César Ferrari, current Superintendent and Economic Counselor. Preliminary studies have been carried out by the Pontifical Javeriana Universityhighlighting the latent opportunity to promote agriculture as an economic engine with a considerable impact on GDP.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Jhenifer Mojica, has underlined the importance of agro-industrialization to meet national development objectives and combat fundamental problems such as food insecurity.

The strategic alliance of MinAgricultura it is a step towards planned agro-industrialization based on public policiesinvolving key players and taking advantage of the potential of the Colombian dairy chain.

The president in charge of Asoleche, nelson guerrero, highlighted the urgency of increasing milk production in the country and facing the climatic challenges that affect the industry. In the last five years, the volume of milk has not experienced growth, and the need to change this trend is evident. The Colombian dairy chain represents 12% of the GDP of the agricultural sector, and with internal consumption that still has room for growth, there is a clear opportunity to achieve dairy self-sufficiency and food sovereignty.

For his part, Raphael Alvarez, general manager of Alquería, highlighted his company’s commitment to nurture the future of Colombia through the transformation of dreams into reality. Alquería joins this alliance with the National Government to promote growth and well-being in the countryside, as evidenced in the “Vaca Madrina” project that has improved the lives of small producers in the south of Cesar. Investment in field productivity proves to have a positive and sustainable impact on Colombian ranchers.

The collaboration of MinAgricultura and the dairy sector it also includes the financial support of Banco Agrario, which has already disbursed more than 1.9 billion pesos to small producers in Cesar and Santander. The feasibility phase that will take place between September and November of this year will define the precise roadmap for increasing milk production in the coming years, supporting the government’s self-sufficiency and export goals.
